With the launch of the Kindle e-book reader by Amazon. I have to ask the question again.. “What is the point”? In an age where we are trying to reduce the number of gadets we carry why would you want to pay almost $400 for an e-book reader? Especially as you have to pay for content that you can get free on the web.
I love the idea of e-books, but why not sell them so i can read them on a gadget that i already have such as my PDA or the IPhone or even my laptop. I know that a laptop is much bigger, but with the introduction of the OLPC and the Eee PC thats going to change. These devices can do the same job and more, web, email, word processing etc for much the same price.
I support Amazon’s decision to offer Non-DRM MP3’s but why have they introduced a device like this when they could sell e-books in a standard open format, and probably sell a lot more of them?
